Baker & Borowski

Bold, large scale public art

Graphic Rewilding is an ongoing project by artists Baker & Borowski, the goal of which is to introduce the diversity and colours of the natural world into urban environments. With these large scale public artworks they hope to inspire people to connect a little more with nature.

Graphic Rewilding emerged from Lee Baker and Catherine Borowski having already collaborated on an ongoing art project called SKIP Gallery, which since 2017 has offered artists the opportunity to create unexpected interventions in skips. And so, with the experience of curating and producing 17 skip shows together, Baker & Borowski’s next step was to create Graphic Rewilding.

Through this art project they found that when nature is presented in a bold, graphic, large-scale way, it can also act as a visual bridge between urban art and what is often seen as a more traditional visual language. Their objective is to act as that bridge, creating uplifting, positive statements in urban environments that project the kind of hopefulness we often feel from nature in springtime. The images, colour and language of nature are universal, appealing to all, and there is an inherent depth, weight and connection which we all instinctively feel.
