Walk The Chalk

Wish the Walk the Chalk Documentary luck in it’s future and may it get the recognition it fully deserves

Walk the Chalk is a celebration of the King Charles III England Coast Path which, when complete, will be the longest coastal trail in the UK

In late September 2023, this five-day event centred on South Hill Barn, Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters,  celebrated local heritage, chalk, fossils, flora, fauna, history and folklore through art and creativity. But most of all, Walk the Chalk continues to celebrate the joys of being in nature and our iconic coastal landscape.

Brought to you by the team behind 2021’s spectacular Tide Mills Project  LYT Productions, in partnership with Lewes District Council, Walk the Chalk was an innovatively produced community celebration in an extraordinary and beautiful location.

Our Celebration Week was windy and wonderful and over 15000 visitors celebrated and walked the chalk with us over the five days.

The Walk The Chalk Documentary celebrates the dedication and inspiring work that went in to the Walk The Chalk celebration week. Find out more about the documentary on the Documentary page

Walk The Chalk Celebration

(Seaford Head, East Sussex, September 2023)
A poem by John White, 2023

Prising wildflowers from overworked land, bright ecologists , shiny with hope, clear-eyed, set out their stalls; while the artists stand with them to celebrate the multi-billion coccoliths, ghosts in this old Cretaceous hillside.

Celebration Week

From 20th – 24th September, a glorious celebration of the King Charles III England Coast Path took place on and around Seaford Head and Cuckmere Haven.

Art and creativity

We commissioned six incredible artists to work with local schools and community groups as they created site specific installations for the main walking route of the Celebration Week.

A number of other artists and creatives are also took part in the project, with special events, activities and art across two sites and the local area.

Community Involvement

As well as the opportunity to visit and enjoy everything that happened during the Celebration Week, there were lots of other opportunities to be a part of the project and we thank each and every single one of our volunteers – we could not have done it without you.

Sold Out!

All the free guided walks and events at South Hill Barn or Seven Sisters Country Park were sold out during our Celebration Week.

We thank each and every one of you that participated.

Getting there

A massive thank you to all of you who walked, cycled or came on public transport to our event and used our free shuttle buses run by Cuckmere Buses.

RDH Coaches ran the free park and ride service from Martello Fields and all the drivers had an extremely busy time throughout Celebration Week.
