Introducing...

Zackary Mckraken

All wailin’ and bawlin’ shantyman

Zackary Mckraken is the all wailin’ and bawlin’ shantyman behind the Homeward Bound Folk and A Capella sessions that have been causing a stir across the dark taverns around East Sussex.

Respecting the balladeering of traditional area specific folk song whilst setting himself apart as the ‘sailors weren’t singers, they were sailors’ school of practice,

Mckraken’s sessions are attended by a range of 20 to 90 year old souls who come together under the Homeward Bound’s no airs and graces attitude to piping up in song.

Be it traditional sea shanties, personal folk songs to songs from other lands that people may bring in different languages.

Having completed a music degree in Installation, Sound Art and Design, Mckraken is on to creating collective and public experiences that aim to prove to people that music and song belong to everyone and not just ‘the musically gifted.’

Whether it’s for a team bonding experience for big companies, or confidence building for charities, Homeward Bound’s mission is to give folks that don’t often get the chance to feel the communion of voices in a space via the simple yet powerful form of the sea shanty.
